Hi, my name is Elzan Coetsee,

I’m a psychometrist and the founder/director of Life Story. I’m also a late bloomer. Unlike most of my peers who seemed to have their career plans all sorted by the end of grade 12, it took me years of fumbling down a rather unfulfilling career path before I eventually figured out what I wanted to do with my life. Finding my purpose was exciting but also a little scary because it meant starting from scratch and going to university for the first time. Initially I felt angry with myself for taking such a long detour. However, the closer I got to my goal, the more I understood and appreciated how all my experiences have shaped and prepared me in ‘becoming’ myself.
I completed a BA degree and BA Honours degree in Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand, both with distinction. During that time, I worked as a volunteer counsellor at Lifeline and assisted with sensory stimulation activities at a frail care centre for senior residents with Dementia and Alzheimer’s whilst managing two small businesses on the side. My passion for psychometry was ignited when I assisted in a project that involved the psychological assessment of young school-going children with mild head injuries at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital in Johannesburg. I loved it so much that I decided to do my postgraduate specialisation (B-Psych Equivalent) in psychometry at the University of Johannesburg.
Life Story represents my own journey so far, a cumulate of knowledge, experience, and skills with which I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of others. My areas of focus include career development, educational assessments, and study skills, but I also render assessment services to clinical psychologists in the medico-legal field.
